Here is Michael Buble's video "I Just Haven't Met You Yet" where he obviously did meet his now-wife.
Yes, that's her in his video:
They did the same thing as my husband and myself - got married in a "legal" wedding, then another ceremony after the fact elsewhere.
Actually, there will be a celebration in Argentina, and then one in Vancouver. I wonder if I am invited?
I will have to call him up.

Smiling
Ever want to be famous? Here is your chance.
Go to the website and if you have a webcam, you can put yourself in the band's Music Video.
Just follow the directions.
I did it.
So if you look carefully through the thirty-one thousand or so submitted frames....you can perhaps pick me out! :)
On another note -
Our homeboy Michael Buble is married! Today!
Got married to an Argentine actress....my 2 nieces will be very upset when they find out....

Sad
I am feeling rather sad and conflicted this am.
Today is the last day I could have renewed my Washington State RN license.
I sat for the exams in 1989, just before moving to California.
After much thought as to where I am going from here, I have decided not to renew my American License, but will only keep my B.C. License.
It makes me sad because it was something I was proud of. I sat for the NCLEX and was then eligible to apply for my RN license in California. After I moved back to Canada, I swapped my California license for a WA state license.
I worked for a number of years, going back and forth over the border to work, and then - The Accident.
I was schmucked on the freeway by a HUGE dump truck with a full load going 100kms per hour. I was minding my own business, on my way to my Favorite Uncle's funeral with my Dad and my Mother with me in the car.
I was in the "slow" lane going the speed limit ....the dump truck was going a lot faster, and the vehicle in front of him slowed down suddenly. The driver of the truck decided to swerve into my lane - and hit me off the road.
We were lucky I was able to keep the car upright. Lucky that it *just happened* to be the small area of roadside that didn't have a sign, a concrete pillar or a water-filled ditch. Lucky that we didn't roll. Lucky that we weren't killed.
I am sure Angels were working hard at that moment, keeping us safe.
My car was totalled. My dad was in shock - a huge gash on the back of his head where the truck came through. I was in shock and "forgot" how to open my door to get out of my car. Police arrived on the scene.
Instead of going to my uncle's funeral, we ended up in ER. My dad and I were checked over. My mother insisted that she was OK. We were released and took a cab back home to my house.
I was never able to work L&D again. My special area of work, the best place in the hospital, the best job in the world - I could no longer do. I couldn't lift my arms above my shoulder and I definitely couldn't do any heavy lifting - a "must" for any L&D work.
I kept up hope that perhaps I could go back to work eventually, but after five years of physiotherapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, rehab treatment, heat/cold therapy, strong anti-inflammatories - I tried it all - I realized that I would never work with Moms and Babes anymore.
I kept up my American license "just in case", since it would be fairly easy for me, as the wife of an American citizen, to work across the border, even with the recent changes in the tightening of restrictions.
But, today is the due date - the last day for the dues to be given in.
I wanted to pay it anyway - it certainly doesn't cost much - only $100 compared to the $408 I pay yearly here in B.C. for my Canadian RN License.
I let the time slip by without doing anything.
It's the end of an era, and I am sad that I won't have that American license, but realistically - I will never work in the USA again.
Not that I really wanted to. Or would.
I just liked that door left - cracked open a little - just in case.
Reality is, I am getting to the end of my career and most of it was spent in Canada...and this is where I will be retiring. The work situation for RNs in the USA are dismal and the type of nursing job I do now is not one that has many openings for in the USA.
So, with a little regret, a touch of sadness and with much conflict in my heart......I leave it behind me.
It is more difficult than I thought it would be.

Ya - A - I - AGAIN
Haley Reinhart and Lauren Alaina were my picks tonight, which is interesting because I usually go for the guys.
But.
Not tonight.
Well, maybe Casey Abrams.
He always amuses.

Royal Wedding in One Month
Why am I posting about something that isn't anything that most Canadians really care about?
I can remember watching The Wedding of Charles and Diana thirty years ago.
I had flown with my sister-in-law and her two little kids to the Middle-of-Nowhere, Saskatchewan - where my RCMP brother (NOT the same one as I previously mentioned!) was posted - to help with the kids and visit.
The town was right out of an old western movie, with dust-blown dirt streets and a hotel/store/post office/soda fountain was the one-and-only community social place.
This particular night July 29th, 1981 - my sister-in-law had arisen to breast-feed my little nephew. It was a tiny house with thin walls and - not being used to babies crying in the middle of the night - I was awakened.
Since I wasn't able to get back to sleep - decided I may as well watch The Wedding with my sis-in-law.
We watched it in it's entirety.
I am not sure if I will do the same for the upcoming nuptials one month from today. Would you?
On the other hand - if you like to knit, you could always recreate your own little Wedding:
Ingenious!
Much more fun to watch, and a great deal shorter!

A Startrek moment...
Every single time this ad comes on TV, my husband laughs so loud and long. I don't understand how he can think something is funny after the first time seeing it.
What do you think??:
I am the type of person that, once I have read this book or have seen that movie - I don't want to read or see it again.
Oh, well.
It amuses him.
And - that makes me laugh.

Going on a little Vacation!
We will be leaving for Palm Desert for a little Birthday Celebratory Vacation soon.
What the hey. My husband gets a little Mercedes convertible for his birthday, so I should get a trip, right? Only, the place we are going is rife with Golf Courses, so - I ask - who's Birthday is it anyway?
Oh well.
So - I see some cheap flights advertised online and quickly book them.
Now, if you have ever purchased flights online nowadays - you know how not cheap those "cheap flights" are at checkout....
I had to laugh when I saw this on YouTube:
Yeah. Those Cheap flights.
Who are they fooling???
Hah! Not me!

What Happens to the Babies we deliver? Part 2
This young man that I wrote about here back in February is amazing.
Did you know that there are other Amazing Little Canadians? Like this little 10 year-old girl, Ta'kaiya Blaney:
Can you imagine, a little girl so environmentally conscious that she writes the song above, records it and then tries to present her CD to the Enbridge company representatives downtown Vancouver.
Enbridge is the company responsible for proposing the building of an oil pipeline between the Alberta Tar Sands and Kitimat, B.C. - through the Great Bear Rain Forest - plus they are responsible for oil tanker traffic on the B.C. coast.
Because she "didn't have an appointment" she was turned away at the doors. After the rejection, the Premier of our Province (american equivalent = Governor of state) emailed her to applaud her effort.
She is home-schooled by her mom and one of her projects for her studies was research into the environmental effects of oil spills.
Ta'Kaiya is a member of the Sliammon First Nations and lives in Vancouver, B.C. Her name means "special water". She started taking voice lessons at age four.
Pretty darn good, if you ask me!
I am hoping that more of the little babies I have delivered through the years will aspire to achieve as much as this one has. She is certainly a bright and shining star!
It really makes American Idol look....well....slightly... tarnished.

Oooh! Excited about a Pen!
![]() |
| oh my. and oh my. |
A Pen!
My cousin gave me an early birthday gift! A Montblanc pen!*
It took me back to the time - 13 years ago - when I was not only nursing, but was doing design work for a cell phone/GPS tracking company - creating interesting "containers" for their product.
To backtrack slightly - in high school I had taken seven semesters of sewing/textiles classes. (no science or math courses for me!)
But - These weren't just any ordinary sewing classes. We learned how to build our own patterns from body measurements, design different styles of clothing, and learn dressmaking/tailoring skills. This included, among other things, invisible repairs, making clothing out of old coats and replace broken zippers with new ones. I loved it!
Two of my projects from scratch ( ie: no use of a pattern ) were a winter coat for my mother and a graduation gown for myself.
I had been sewing and creating clothes and dolls since age 11 - and that continued on, even through my nursing career. My first purchase after graduation wasn't a car - it was a Bernina sewing machine.
At one point I designed and sold uniforms while also nursing, but realized quite quickly, there was no money in that, and nursing paid much more - if you counted the hours worked.
Most people don't appreciate the time and effort that goes into sewing something. No one is willing to pay for the actual hours of designing and sewing anything. I suppose that explains the sweat shops overseas.
Fast-forward back to 1998.
My little design created a little bit of a stir in Germany at the enormous electronics fair in Hannover - and a writeup was done in the Technology Trade Magazine, with a photo of it right on the front page! The guys impressed a well-known cell phone company and were invited to their head office for a presentation.
The two guys I did the design work for, pleased at the response at the Trade show, flew me out to Amsterdam. They caught up to me there and then we flew on to Geneva, Switzerland.
The one guy, Al, always had dreamed of touring Italy in a Convertible, so when we landed in Geneva, he decided to rent a brand-new Jaguar convertible and we set forth on our road trip.
Al had to put up the entire cost of the car as collateral to the rental company because of our intent to travel in Italy. If you have ever driven in Italy - you would understand why.
Driving through the Alps, we stopped at a Montblanc store to pick up a pen for the other guy - Mike. At the time, I couldn't believe anyone would pay so much for a pen.
Thus the surprise and shock to get that pen (she had "wrapped" it up in a Jimmy Choo purse along with a silk Luis Vuitton scarf! - all for me!!) with it's distinctive Montblanc white "star" on the leather case!
Score!
OK, now you are probably wondering about the rest of the trip.
It was quite the wild ride - myself and two guys in a little convertible, driving on to Rome.
Me in the back seat. (have you seen the back seat of a Jag convertible??)
But that's another story for another time.
For today, it's all about The Pen.
*Did I tell you it came with a refill too? :)

Motown: makes for a great night!
That's what I'm saying!
REDEMPTION
They were all good, and some were exceptional.
Only two of them needs more soul in their music: Pia and Stefano.
Other than that, well done!
Between Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler...and the producers that are working with the singers.... AI has morphed into something better than it has been in years.

Schoolyard Smackdown
It speaks for itself:
On facebook, my nephew is being called names - "bullied" - with one kid in particular saying mean things and using the "F" bomb in reference to him
Did I mention ....my nephew is 10 years old?
Why should he have to put up with this? What kind of kids do this sort of thing? Where are the parents? Better yet, what kind of parenting produces kids like this?
My sister-in-law and myself have both emailed this particular kid to cease and desist. I have a mind to phone up the parents of the bully next time I see something again.
Problem: My brother has left the family (long story) and is so wrapped up in the "new family" that his "original" family is being ignored. Their mom works hard to support the four kids - since my brother is such a loser and doesn't - and can't be everything to everyone.
Needless to say I have lost all respect for my brother...who has left his little family for this so-called "Christian" lady and her son.
Ya, right.
Do I sound bitter? Perhaps.
It looks like his kids are the ones that are being punished.
God help those four boys.
So, forgive me if this video makes me feel sad that kids are made to feel that they have no other choice but resort to this...

Mayhem at our house
Got a nice bouquet of variegated tulips when my cousin came through. They were so gorgeous, my husband and I took a ton of photos.
Of course, my husband gets into the photography part a little more than I do. After all, he was the one crawling out to the end of the roof for the moon shots, whereas I simply hung out the window.
Here were the flowers:
This is where my husband decided that, rather than take the flowers down, as I did earlier, and take the photos - he was just going to take the photos as the flowers sat up on the fireplace mantel. Kitty was watching the whole production:
Kitty then turned to me as if to say accusingly - " He's on the furniture...aren't you gonna do something about it?????"

Scarey Movie Trailer...sequel to last post!
Of course, as always - someone got creative with the original post.
The Mom of the babe who posted the original video loved this one and actually "favorited" it.
It's probably more along the lines of what I would be thinking...

Shocked baby!
Just thought this little baby from Montreal, Quebec was cute ...
Interesting - babies' expressions when they encounter something new.
Didn't realize that someone blowing their nose was so shocking and funny!
Now, Mom. Go and throw that kleenex in the trash and wash your hands!!!

Super Moon
Finally made it's appearance.
You can read all about it HERE.
Nature.
My husband and I created a little spectacle of our own when we crawled out one of our upper storey windows and sat on the roof to take photos.
You can't beat nature for the entertainment it constantly provides.
I wondered what the bright lights were on the moon.
This NASA photo may explain them:

Doctor: Heal thyself!
I don't often read MD blogs.
But, occasionally, when I am finished reading the nursing/nursing student blogs and my other favorite blogs, and any relatives/friend's blogs.....I will meander over to a couple of the MD blogs.
Dr D was the exception this time round. You can tell by the date on the post - March 11 - that I am a little behind the times.
The reason I mention his blog post is because he recently has had the privilege to be a patient this time 'round, and actually had an epiphany as a result.
It really is worth the read...especially if you are in - or are considering working in - the Health field.
I like it when people can learn from their experiences, and when it enhances the work they already do.
I know being a patient really affected the way I treat my patients~!
What was it like when I was ill??
Just in case you haven't already read it - Check it out :

Thank goodness for PVR
I couldn't really get into AI tonite.
For one thing, the songs weren't that great and the performances weren't as good as what they have been in the past couple of weeks.
I suppose there has to be an "off" night sometime. Might as well get it over with at the beginning rather than the end.
Of note (pun intended!) though:
1. James Durbin
2. Stephano Langone
Do they really need to have them do the "Year they were Born" theme?
Oh well.
There's always next week.

More Nocturnal Animals Visiting during the Day!
One night a couple years ago, a raccoon wandered into our backyard and up onto our porch. It was a HUGE sucker - about the size of a medium size dog. It didn't scare easily.
Then, this past fall, while we were relaxing in the hot tub minding our own business, I felt a pair of eyes looking at me over the fence. A Raccoon was peeking over from the neighbor's yard while perched on their divider fence running perpendicular to ours - not 3 feet away. I shooed it away quite easily with a splash of water.
These raccoons are quite a nuisance in these parts.
My cousin had trouble with raccoons invading her yard at night, fishing in her koi pond and grabbing her glass floating fish ornaments - smashing them to smithereens. I guess they thought they were real fish.
Then, last evening, just when I thought the raccoons had decided to go elsewhere permanently - there he was - this little rascal!
I think he is a young one - he seemed all nervous to see us, but not nervous enough to run off.
My husband had to crawl out on the roof and with broom in hand, guide the little guy off the roof. The raccoon grabbed the downspout and swung himself down to the ground Tarzan-like and ran off down the street - probably ended up in the forest.
I felt sorry for him, but wild animals are not to be encouraged, ever. Here is the video I took from our bathroom window:
Our place has a plethora of wild animals hanging about.
It's been exciting lately!

Speaking of Owls.... giving a Hoot!
![]() |
| my own photo |
This is who we saw!
I have since identified it as a "Barred Owl". It is also known as the "Rain Owl" or the "Hoot Owl".
They are an aggressive species of the Owl family and they thrive in suburban areas as opposed to thick forest.
They are a threat to the Northern Spotted Owl which is on the endangered species list. There has been a real drive in the southern interior of our province to save the Spotted Owl, so the fact that this Barred Owl has moved further north and west - may be considered a threat to the poor old Spotted Owl of which there are only 6 known pairs left in the wild in B.C.*
We were surprised to see an owl during the daylight hours (it was approx 9:45 am) but of all the owls, I understand that this species is the most apt to be seen during the day - usually around dawn and dusk.
The crows didn't like the fact that this Owl was around. Can you spot the crow just beyond the owl in the photo? They were making such a noise - and unfortunately, you can only barely hear them on the movie I uploaded, since the movie was taken through our heavy glass door.
Had I just waited a couple more minutes, I would have had a movie of the owl flying into the forest across the street.
We didn't hear the Owl hooting, but they say it is a series of eight hoots with a downward pitch at the end as in "oo-aw". The mnemonic of their hoot would be - "Who cooks for you. Who cooks for you all".
I just love living next door to our Forest!
I appreciate the fact that the developer took pains to preserve most of the huge old trees in the area - the wildlife we see outside our windows and around our yard is amazing.
*The US Fish and Wildlife Federation proposes killing these Barred Owls in an experiment to see if it will affect the Spotted Owl population.

"The Earth Wobbled on it's Axis - and shortened Friday"
Yes, apparently it did.
Friday was shortened by 1.8 milliseconds because the whole earth wobbled on it's axis.
AND - Japan's eastern coastline moved up to 12 feet towards North America.
It's all so difficult to believe - that something like this could affect the way the earth sits in it's orbit. It really makes one wonder what it might take to actually move the earth permanently and dangerously.
You can watch the latest news out of Japan - live stream - on the Asian all news channel....the effects of the Tsunami...
It brings back the same disbelief and shock I felt on December 26, 2004 - and the feeling of our insignificance in this world.
It really brings those small irritating things in my life into perspective.

Remember the Owl cam last year?
This is the Eagle Cam in Norfolk, Virginia.
Some of the chicks are hatched. The latest one - just yesterday. I have always loved armchair nature-ogling.
Watch them grow!
Addendum: Here is the Eagle's Nest Blog website. Very interesting photos up close and personal with explanations. You can also track where the eagles go....

An Irish Toast to a life Well Lived
Today my uncle would have been 83.
He was a great man, not only in character, but also in generosity.
My uncle worked his way up the ranks of the Ironworkers Union. He eventually became a widely respected negotiator within the union, known for his even temper and undying patience.
He served his is last ten years as one of the several Presidents of the Ironworkers Union for the whole of North America.
Despite his yarn-spinning abilities, he didn't boast much, but that was my uncle's way.
The stories he told were more of an aside, as a reluctant observer. Some of the stories I had to hear second-hand because of his quiet demeanour.
Such was the story of when he was on a flight with the Prime Minister of Canada - Pierre Elliot Trudeau. They discussed many issues facing Canada while Trudeau's three little boys played in the aisle of the plane.
It was not too long after that, my uncle got a phonecall from Prime Minister Trudeau himself, offering him a government position in Ottawa. My uncle was too much a family man to uproot his little family and move back east - and declined the offer.
British Columbia was home to him.
In the week that is typically celebrated as Irish... I remember an Irishman that was true to himself, and toast my Uncle, a wonderful man and a great human being who lost his fight with lung cancer six years ago.

Eerily similar - yet Different
Has anyone else noticed the similarities? Look at these two countries:
Japan:
Land Area: approx 146K square miles
Population: 127 Million people
GDP: approx $5.4 TRILLION
Per capita income: $42K per yr
New Zealand:
Land Area: approx 103K square miles
Population: 4.3 Million people
GDP: approx $136 BILLION
Per capita income: $31K per yr
The cities most affected by their latest earthquakes are approximately at the same place in both countries, respectively - on the lower islands. With NZ it was Christchurch, with Japan it was Sendai.
Japan: 8.9 earthquake on the Richter scale
New Zealand: 6.3 earthquake on the Richter scale
Japan's earthquake - not to downplay the tragic results of the NZ earthquake - was 8,000 times stronger than NZ's earthquake. EIGHT THOUSAND TIMES! Unbelievable.
When I was living in San Francisco area, I was told by my engineer friends that the devastation from the 7.1 earthquake we experienced would have been a lot worse if they had not been as prepared and if it had gone on any longer. But I was also told that there is a point where even the best prepared earthquake buildings won't stand up to a temblor of an immense magnitude.
Take a look at these photos - before and after - of the destruction. You can see by a sweep of the mouse back and forth, what the area around Sendai looked like, satellite view, before and after the tsunami.
And these photos. And these.
I am not posting the links for morbid curiosity, but so everyone can see and appreciate the magnitude of what has happened. They make it more real.
We are all humans, after all, and our hearts can't help but go out to those affected by the latest disaster.
It is interesting to read the comments at the very end of the photo presentations - they come from all over the world, all different countries - even Haiti - every different religion whether Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Buddhist, Agnostic - why can't we all get along and reach out to each other with compassion - without the prompting of a disaster?

As Good as it Gets, Blogwise.
When I was younger, I was a voracious reader. It didn't matter what I read - if there was print on a page - I would read it.
I had read the whole "Lion, Witch and Wardrobe" series before grade four and was already delving into science fiction and historical tomes by seventh grade. No "romance paperbacks" for me!
I still love to read, but I have adjusted to electronic stuff as of late, although I still believe there is nothing better than the smell of a freshly printed page. (Yes, that's me, sniffing books in Chapters!)
Then you run into a blog that *really* stands out.
You know, the one that compels us to go back to the beginning of their blog and read every single post in order - end to end.
Check this blog out:
"What makes you think I have cats?" - authored by Betsy*.
Honest to God, I was sitting in my little office space on my breaks yesterday - laughing so hard that I was disturbing my co-workers. I just couldn't help it. I don't often howl out loud whilst reading, but Betsy really has The Gift.
If you are having a bad day, this blog is guaranteed to cheer you up. Something like watching "Seinfeld". Actually, it's a LOT like "Seinfeld". Betsy transforms her ordinary office life into a sitcom. There are actually a lot of parallels to the world of nursing. Very clever writing. Check out the "horoscopes". Where does this come from? I wonder at the imaginations of people who write this stuff.
Mostly, I read nursing and nursing student's blogs, but occasionally I come across a blog that is so witty... I can't get enough. I want her to write more. Yes, this one is that good.
Gee, I love good writing. *sigh*
It's like eating a peanut butter and cucumber sandwich. Crunchy, fresh and flavorful, with a sprinkle of sugar - it has you wanting more.
* I found Betsy's blog via "It's Always Something" - Lois Sterns - another great writer, who was mentioned in Head Nurse's blog, which is, by the way - the other blog I read from end to end like a book...

AI - The Thirteen
Until next year, anyway.
The three standouts for me were:
James Durbin: Singing Paul McCartney. He is unbelievable. So far, always my first pick. He is so sincere.
Jacob Lusk: Wow. He has the incredible good looks of Sidney Portier and an incredible voice. wow. And such a nice kid. I love this guy.
Casey Abrams: singing "I get by with a little help from my friends"...he is so good and interesting! Always entertaining!
Still Amazing although some minor glitches for me:
Naima Adedapo: she was the standout in the second group of "Still Amazing" - great rendition of My Umbrella...never mind she could be a model. Or a designer. She was almost in my Top Three.
Pia Toscano: All by myself, amazing voice but something about it, I didn't really get wild about.
Paul McDonald: I love his style. He's different! Probably, next to Casey, the most interesting and fun to watch.
Haley Reinhart: singing "Blue", the yodel got me. I just love a gal that can yodel. No other real reason.
Thia Megia: very nice - singing "Smile". I still can't believe she's only 15!
Scotty McCreery: good solid country. Once again, it's that age thing, a 16 year old with a man's deep voice - they just don't match up - and that makes him interesting.

Our Nurses Matter: Tim Hortons
I don't know if you have been over to AlbinoBlackbear's blog - "Asystole is the Most Stable Rhythm" - where she discusses the situation where patients had to be kept in the donut shop because the Emergency Department was overflowing.......
But I found this on the internet, and thought it amusing :
I also noticed on this Facebook site - Our Nurses Matter - that there were a lot of positive comments from patients that were in Emergency at Royal Columbian Hospital when the Timmy's Fiasco occurred.
It's nice to know that some people are supportive of the hard working nurses.....

No Smoking - or, You're Fired
I'm not a smoker. Never was.
Oh, well, ok. I admit, I did smoke a pack of Menthol Mores one night when I was 28. That was it.
I don't like the smell of cigarettes.
Certainly smoking has been proven to be unhealthy for you.
However, the latest tendency of businesses in the USA to have a "tobacco-free hiring policy" may cause a lot of ruffled feathers. Or will it?
Apparently there are hospitals in Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Tennessee that are no longer hiring smokers, and have this requirement clearly stated on their application forms. Some employers aren't even restricting the rule to new employees - they will fire existing employees if they won't or can't quit.
Not only do they have this as a work policy, but also some will require their workers to actually submit to urine tests to detect nicotine. Basically, cigarettes are being treated as a narcotic. Some courts have upheld the employer's rights not to hire based on whether or not you inhale.
What I don't understand is the discrepancy in all of this.
The tobacco industry is allowed to flourish - but it is the people who have been sucked into the use of tobacco by the widespread cigarette advertising and legality that are the ones that are being penalized. Yes, there have been penalties and restrictions imposed on the tobacco industry in recent years, but they are the ones with deep pockets - not your average J.Q. Public.
The problem I have with this - once they have banned smoking altogether - what is next? Banning fat people? That would eliminate half of America. Marginalize anyone using alcohol in their private lives? (I'm talking about a glass of wine in the evening, folks - not blatant alcoholism!) Perhaps they will attempt to revitalize the Prohibition? How well did that work??
Hey, I am the last one to like anyone puffing away in my little sphere. I may even tell you to go elsewhere and smoke. And - I certainly don't condone smoking around children or babies.
But I would be the first one to say that personal choices are personal choices in the matter of cigarettes.in one's personal space.
No, they aren't a healthy lifestyle choice. Yes, they are linked to cancer and other diagnoses such as Emphysema - which cause the health system a lot of money, never mind it's a horrible way to die.
But where does it stop - our employers telling us what our restrictions are in regards to personal liberty?
Is it ok for employers to demand this? Some will dare say that workers should have NO RIGHTS in the workplace. (see the comments section).
So, if that is the case, when will your employer be telling *you* what you can or can't do in your own house on your own time?

On Business...Cowichan Bay
I made a visit to "The Island" a couple years ago on business.
When you are living in my province, "The Island" means Vancouver Island.
There are many beautiful places in the world, but none so beautiful as this province.
If you ever get a chance to tour around these parts - make sure you visit The Island.

Price Of Gasoline....Going up
Here is a sign from a gas station in B.C. Canada. (it's a joke, actually!)
I guess people are in shock at the prices.
The range of price of gas in our province varies between $1.13 to $1.33 per litre, depending where you live. ( that's $4.28 to $5.04 per U.S. gallon for you americans out there! Canadian dollar is worth 3 cents more than the U.S. dollar btw)
I guess you just have to have a sense of humor ...

Happy Anniversary Honey!
My husband and I have now been married for 5 years.
Ya, I know. I am kinda old for only 5 years married.
But - I found love late in life.
At least, I probably should say - I found my last enduring love late in life!
Interestingly enough, we were quite shocked when we did the math to figure it out. I usually can't remember the year we got married. I am bad that way. I hate to admit that I even put the incorrect date on some of our legal papers. oops!
Good news - at least my husband remembers.
He is so romantic. He buys me gifts, does special things, notices things I like so he can surprise me with them, arranges romantic dinners - even makes dinners entirely by himself while I lounge on the couch, waited on hand and foot.
He is quite the Romeo.
I suppose the reason the time seems to roll along so fast is because we get along so well. I don't recall any major fights or disagreements. We seldom disagree. We laugh at the same things. We make sure we resolve any type of differences before going to bed.
We have a sign over our bed: "Always Kiss Me Goodnight".
At least I remember to do that, if nothing else.
Lucky I put the sign up.

Yup. I was right. Except One.
Well, well. ALL my picks for AI got through to the next round except my little redhead Brett. That's ok. Another little 17-year-old with an incredible voice took his place.
Hope it will be a good week next week.
Anyway, Jennifer Lopez's "new" song was played at the end of the program while the judges were deciding the "wild card" picks. It suddenly hit me.......it sounded so familiar........
I had a sudden flash back to 1989 when I moved to East Bay San Francisco.....the year of the earthquake....
I was living in a little poolside cabana in Walnut Creek, the show VH1 was on and there that song was - playing - Kaoma Worldbeat Lambada. I loved that song! I used to dance around the pool, waist long hair with the wavy auburn ringlets....bathing suit....laughing.....dancing the Lambada....
It seems that someone else recognized this, and actually spliced the two together.
Which one of the two sounds the best???
The Kaoma version or the JLo version?
ADDED MARCH 5....after checking out the story a little more!
Apparently the group Kaoma "stole" the song from a group in Bolivia - were sued for a million $ which the group Kaoma lost. Jlo paid royalties to use the song.
So there you have it. The whole story!
Here's the original group and the original version:

The Girls - Tonight
Not so spectacular as the Guys.
One standout......
Naima Adedapo. She is so talented and not only with her voice....she designs her own outfits! Gotta love a gal that does that! Creative!
Close runners up:
Haley Reinhart - quite good! She can really sing!
Thia Megia - age 15????Crazy good!!! I can't believe she is 15!
That's it. I was so disappointed with the Girls night that I had to go back and listen to the Guys nite all over again. Wow. That made me smile.

How Many of these ended up in YOUR Emergency Department??
It was definitely the first thing that came to my mind....
Eh - Aye ( A - I )
It's no secret my husband and I like the show.
We used to watch it "together" in seperate cities before we were married, instant messaging back and forth and rating each contestant.
We figured last year was the final year we would watch it because it was starting to get old. I didn't really like the way the judges would tear apart the kids trying out for the show.
Yes, some of the "talent" was lacking - with little insight into their singing abilities (or should I say dis-abilities). I blame the pre-screeners for even putting some of those "contestants" through - obviously done for drama - not talent.
But - now with Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler added as the new judges....what an improvement! They show heart and compassion.
I've always liked Aerosmith. Now I have new admiration for their frontman.
Steven Tyler was so touching when he reached out to one of the contestants - Chris Medina's fiance Juliana who is confined to a wheelchair due to a traumatic brain injury.
Here is the story - I'll bet you can't watch it without shedding at least one tear:
By the way, Chris Medina was eliminated and isn't in the Top 24.
I really do think that American Idol saved the show - at least for one more season - by bringing in Jennifer and Steven .....I like them.
The male contestants I am rooting for this time 'round? Out of the 12:
1. James Durbin : a young man who struggles with Tourettes and Asperger's. His musician Daddy died of an OD when he was just a little guy. One word - AMAZING! Dare I say he is better than Adam Lambert at times?
2. Jacob Lusk: he sure did an incredible "God Bless the Child" in a previous show....he has one amazing voice..!!! wow. wow. Luther Vandross voice doppelganger.
3. Brett Loewenstern: a young man that was/is bullied in school, a real carrot top! He has quite the voice! And he's 16!!
4. Scott McCreery: A sweet young man who had an epiphany during the eliminations and apologized for not sticking up for a dejected co-contestant when he could have. His vocals may be limited to country, but I love his style. And 16 years old???!! Crazy.
5. Paul McDonald: raspy-Rod-Stewart voiced Kenny Loggins look-alike. I just like him - and his voice.
6. Casey Abrams: He is just one quirky guy. Love his quirky style and voice. Hope he can keep it up.
NOTE: you can purchase Chris Medina's new song: "What are Words" (written by a composer who has also written for Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson) from iTunes. The proceeds go towards a fund set up for Juliana, to help with her recovery/treatment expenses.
